71 New Inpatient Beds in 4 Months
Northside Hospital Gwinnett | Universal Inpatient Unit
The Atlanta region has experienced rapid growth, straining the capabilities of Northside Hospital, which became even more critical during the COVID-19 pandemic. To respond to that exponential demand for care during the pandemic, Northside selected STAAT MOD to quickly add universal inpatient beds to accommodate care surges both during the pandemic as well as into the future. The STAAT MOD modules, comprising 71 new patient beds and totaling 47,000 SF, were developed, and fabricated entirely off site by the Boldt+HGA team. Following fabrication, the modules were delivered and connected to the hospital infrastructure by Boldt.
The acuity-adaptable rooms installed at Northside are a mix of critical care ICU, AIIR, and lower acuity spaces such as Step Down, Medical Surgical, and Observation rooms.
Fabrication of the units began in August and were on site by September, with the first wing open to patients by the end of October – fewer than five months from the notice to proceed. This process would normally take more than 15 months. This unheard of speed to market improvement enabled Northside Hospital to provide quality patient care to their community when it needed it most.
